The Blues is an American Music Form.
Blues music was not allowed air play, considered a black musical form
of expression that had no place into the slick white audience.
The white people knew nothing about the Devil`s Music as it was
often refered.
The few white people that heard this music were instantly drawn to it
and it became a well hidden secret for the few underground hip
whites.
But when Europeans discovered the Blues everything changed!
Listening to the insrumental “Hideaway” written by Freddie King
from the so called nowdays “Beano” album, recorded in the mid sixties
by John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers
featuring a young Eric Clapton,
you get the blues but you also get something new and refreshing
that comes through the hands of this young Englishman,
something that was later called “Rockin`Blues”.
I had no idea who Freddie King was and the first time i heard
of BB.King was from the mouth
of the great John Lennon, who referred to BB
as the greatest Blues Guitar Player.
I still get more chills listening to Peter Green`s
interpretation of “The Stumble”
from the second John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers album “A Hard Road”
featuring a young Peter Green, than i get from the Freddie King original.
As a young European i had nothing in common with an older
black blues guy from Mississippi,Chicago or Memphis,
places and people from so far away
as from another planet, but i could totally indentify myself with
these young, hip British cats and i was hooked for life.
Tonight i am going to BB KIng`s
right here in my neighborhood to see Mr. John Mayall & the Bluesbrakers
playing .
I am so thrilled!
