Music Life.

Monday night i was invited to Mannahatta Restaurant & Lounge
by my friend guitar player Mr. Hendrik Helmer to listen
to the band called Players Choice where some very good musicians
and friends of mine are playing.

On vocals Mr.Bobby Harden was as good as always
and i was singing along some of his tunes from his very good R&B album
"Soul Purpose".

On the bass another favorite of mine Mr.Ivan Bodley
was grooving together with some other amazing musicians i haven`t met before.

Last night after Ivan`s suggestion for Good Music i went to
Turtle Bay Bar & Grill where another amazing
band was performing for no cover again.

They call themselves FunkasaurusRex and man they are HOT!

I really like both places and i am looking forward to play there myself.

I `ve got me some new cds to listen to from the Midtown Manhattan Library.

The Essential Sonny Rollins is a tour de force
to his RCA years, recorded between 1962 and 1964
right here in New York.
Amazing!

It`s been a while i haven`t listen to an old friend Mr.Eric Burdon
and his 2006 recording "Soul of a Man" was a good surpise come back.

The last cd i took out is a Roots,Blues & Jazz one with Ms.Bonnie Bramlett
and after listening to it a couple of times i realized how much of
an influence she has been to younger female vocalists.

She is that good!

From WKCR to the YARD.

The cold weather is continuing and today`s temperature is 16F.

On Saturday i was at WKCR where i played
some new songs on my acoustic and had a very good time with the host
of the show "Something inside me" Mr.Max Bauer, who played some
very very good music that day.

I was playing at Scotland Yard Bar on Tuesday night
when the expected snow storm arrived.

We made it back home safe but we didn`t get the crowd we expected.

The band was smoking and everyone there enjoyed our show.

I went over to Midtown Library
where i found the latest Larry Carlton`s
cd titled "Fire Wire" where he
continues the blues-jazz tradition he has established.

Great compositions and i really like the sound of his Gibson 335
through that Dumble amplifier he uses.

Another cd i took out was the Hubert Sumlin`s
"Healing Feeling" where he plays some mean blues together
with some very special guests.

This is the first time i heard his music and guitar playing and i like it.

The third disc i took out was "The essential Jimmy Thackery
with some other special guests as Lonnie Brooks,
Duke Robillard, John Mooney, and Reba Russel.

Another guitar player that i listened to for the first time.

A littel heavier than the two previous ones and more Rock than Blues.

Super Bowl.

Can you say really COLD?
Well it is!
Blues skies,sunny but cold. NYtimes.

Saturday I spent at home, playing guitar and writing a new tune.

I was going through old Guitar Player issues
trying to find a very useful music lesson about Blues turnarounds
that i remembered i once had read.

I finally found it on July 2003 issue titled "Blue Moves"
by Jean-Marc Belkadi and it has a picture of a man known for his
fat turnarounds the late, great Joe Pass.

In this issue there`s also a very valueable lesson about Slide Guitar
from one of my favorite players Sonny Landreth,
and another very interesting one by another favorite of mine,
Robben Ford, where he shares a
Miles Davis lesson.

I finally watched the high end performance of Guitar Player`s
Guitar Hero 2006 ,Trey Alexander on Guitar Player TV
which gave him the title as the Best One of the ten finalists.

His influences are not hard as he also states that
Steve Vai is his #1 guy
and he also plays an Ibanez Steve Vai model guitar.

Although i should be the last person to ask about sports,
i know that today is the super Sunday for the Super Bowl!

I Never watch TV at home since i don`t even own one,
but this one i should like to watch especially for the 30 seconds
Veterans For Escalation add that Move On has tried
so hard to raise money for, and Pepsi`s
Super Bowl Halftime show with Prince.
